I am a licensed psychologist whose practice focuses primarily on children and young adolescents and their families.  My approach is eclectic.  I see each child as a puzzle.  Sometimes the pieces fit together perfectly and other times it is necessary to work really hard to find the right piece to complete the puzzle.  In so doing, I use a variety of techniques and strategies – play therapy, sand therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy to name a few.  I believe that a child is part of a larger system, including parents, siblings, schools, etc., and therefore, I strive to work with and include all aspects of a child’s world in treatment.
In addition to therapy, I conduct psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations for individuals aged three through young adults.  Testing encompasses many things including but not limited to:  cognitive assessment; achievement testing; perceptual and processing abilities; attention; memory; motor skills; language and executive functioning skills.  In looking at each area of development, it is possible to know what you can ‘expect’ of your child; what is happening right now in school; and how he/she got from one place to another.  If there is a breakdown in learning, testing will uncover the whys.  Recommendations are made that are practical and useful.  I have worked for many years in schools and fully understand what is actually possible to accommodate in the typical classroom.  Additionally, I conduct Admissions assessments to all Independent schools in the Metropolitan area.   If there is a question of readiness for school, I also perform developmental and readiness screening to help you make the best decision for your child.

Taking the first step to helping a child who is struggling academically, behaviorally, socially and/or emotionally, is the most important decision you may make in your child’s life.

I look forward to meeting your child (and you).
